To ensure that you can enjoy your Moto pedals for a long time, it is advisable to maintain them from time to time. With just a few simple steps, you can keep them in top shape so that they feel like new for a long time. And don't worry: it only takes 5-10 minutes.
You can maintain and care for your pedals as needed.
How often you do this depends on how much you ride and how hard you use the pedals.
This is part of care and maintenance:
• clean and grease axles
• clean and grease bearing surfaces
• renew grip tapes as needed
Tip: In the Moto team we always maintain our pedals in spring and autumn (April and October). This way, they are well cleaned and lubricated for the wet seasons and the summer months when riding is more frequent.
You can watch how to proceed in our video:
To access the interior of your pedal, you first need to peel off a grip tape. Because underneath this are the screws to open the pedal. The grip tape under which the screw heads are located is marked on the pedal with a small arrow.
Warm the grip tape marked with the arrow with a hairdryer and pull it off.
Important: If the grip tape is still in good condition, you can reapply it later and continue using it. So you don't have to replace it every time you maintain your pedals.
Loosen the screws that are embedded in the platform with a 3 mm Allen key and take apart the half shells of your pedal.
Remove the axle, clean and grease it. Also clean and grease the bearing surfaces in the half shells where the axle sits. Use grease, not oil. We recommend our MOTO Pedal Grease from our Refresh Kit or a similar lubricant with PTFE additives.
Tip: Wipe off the remaining grease from the brush on the O-ring. This way, it will also remain well-greased.
Place the axle back into the bearing surface. Make sure that the O-ring is in the designated groove in the half shell and is not damaged.
Then reassemble the pedal. Tighten the screws by hand.
Reapply the grip tape that you removed back onto the pedal. For new pads, you may need to clean the adhesive surfaces beforehand.
You don't need to warm them up with a hairdryer and you also don't need any additional adhesive, as the grip tapes are self-adhesive.
